Chelva did his early education at Uduvil Girls, Jaffna Central, and Jaffna Hindu and BSc Mech at Peradeniya.

1980-85 MS, PhD, Caltech, Civil and Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aeronautics

1985-90 Tenure track faculty, Carnegie Mellon University

1990-00 Co-Founder/CEO ReproNet, maker of CAD file transmission and remote plotting software

2000-10 CFO, Chairman of the Board, Daughters of Charity Healthcare System, 6 hospitals with multi billion US$ annual billed revenues

2003-05 MBA in Healthcare from University of California Irvine

2010-15 President EPIR Technologies, Inc., research development and foundry of infrared material serving US defense industry

2015 -    Retired and teaching at IIT Gandhinagar, UC Irvine, and University of Jaffna
